Does anyone know what is happening with the following.

1. Make a new drawing with size 40x40 mm. Set in the advanced options the X- an Y-resolution to 1 pixel/mm.
2. Use the pencil and set the size to 1 (brush = 1. pixel)
3. Draw a one pixel dot on the canvas. You have now a square drawing one pixel in size
4. Set size to 2. Again draw a dot but it is now 3 dots in size not 2. Why???

You can do it for 3, 4, 5, 6, etcetera sizes and you will see a very strange behavior. What am I doing wrong??

Size of brushes is 1+2*radius. So you cannot have even numbers.

That is for parametric brushes - something.vbr

For pixel art use a .gbr brush. You can make one yourself, 1x1 pix canvas, grayscale, fill with black. Export as a something.gbr
or
Use the one from the old Gimp 2.6 files pixel.gbr which you will find in /usr/share/gimp/2.0/brushes/gimp-obsolete-files/ Copy that to your Gimp user brushes folder /~/.config/GIMP/2.10/brushes/

As a pencil that can use the required size(s).

Thank you ofnuts and rich2005.

A link to your answer has been posted here: http://dutchgimpers.nl/index.php/topic,2983.0.html. One of our Gimp members has posted this question on our Dutch Gimpers forum and I could not give him a good explenation.
