Post subject:  Can't get color picker to work [Solved]

GIMP Version: 2.10
Operating System: Mac OS
OS Version: 11.2.3
GIMP Experience: Basic Level

There is some kind of color palette that has the title "Color History". If I use the color picker on the image a white border around "Color History" flashes. It won't let me use the color picker to chose colors. I can only choose colors by selecting a color in the "Color History". (or double clicking on foreground/background colors) So I want the color picker to work normally. I tried resetting the GIMP settings and deleting and reinstalling GIMP. (I turned on the colormap window previously to edit colors in a GIF)

might help for a start if you download the latest stable version of gimp - 2.10x for your OS. https://www.gimp.org/ which is the official gimp site or
Parthas Place which might have GMIC included https://www.partha.com/ He has a 2.10.22 McGIMP which will work on your OS

I've got GIMP 2.10.22 (revision 3). BTW the color picker was working earlier today. If I can get rid of that "Color History" area maybe things will work again.

I think it is called "Palette Editor" because that shows when I hover over the icon above it.

Your first post says Gimp 2.8.14

Color History is a Palette.
Colormap is not the same as a Palette.
Neither a Palette nor a Colormap will prevent the Color Picker from working.

The problem lies elsewhere. For example, trying to pick a color outside the layer boundary. But difficult to tell from your descripltion.

Make sure you have no selection in your image too
if 'none' in the selection menu isn't greyed out - you have one.

Sorry I think that was the default and I must not have changed it. (Should be 2.10)

I fixed it.... for the options for color picker I changed it to "Set foreground color". I think it was "Add to palette".

Hi,

I am running into a similar problem where the color picker is selecting the wrong colors (I am not sure where else to post).

I believe my problem has to do with using different size monitor screens when using Terminal Services.

Sometimes I use my laptop to work outside and do other things, but when I connect into my desktop computer. I can't use the color picker without having to close Gimp and open it back up and set everything back up.

Is there an easier way to do this? Or a way that I can make my laptop work correctly when selecting colors through Gimp on my laptop (smaller screen) connecting to Terminal Services?

Thank you for any help!

Make sure you have checked all the settings in the tool options Steve. Otherwise can you give us a snapshot of your gimp when this happens please?
