GIMP Version: 2.8.14
Operating System: Windows
GIMP Experience: Basic Level

Hey GIMP Gurus,

I was hoping if someone would be able to give me a hand in making a paper texture such as the one pictured with the post.

I have seen on google about make paper look old, but nothing as textured as what I was looking at.
I had tried the canvass filter but it doesn't seem to make the same effect.

Does anyone have any idea at all at how to do something like this?

Many thanks eitherway.

DPR

Have you tried "GIMPressionist"? You will find it on the GIMP menu, Filters> Artistic> GIMPressionist

I've had a look, but perhaps I'm not doing it right. Will have a play with it today.

Thanks

I was sure it was in GMIC too dinasset.
You could also use noise on your canvas to make your paper texture
Try in gimp - Filters > Render > Noise > Perlin noise
There are others to try if you want.

I gaussian blurred it a little to get rid of the 'lines'. You can use colourize to make it whatever colour you want.
By the way there is a preset 'paper' in Gimpressionist.

Gimpressionist comes from an earlier era where images were generally smaller. You can change the default values, different brush and brush size. A little post-processing, a default gaussian blur and bump map on itself. This using a white canvas, try a light grey or yellowish.

Dear dinasset, sallyanne, and rich2005

Thank you so much for all your replies.
I've never used GMIC before, and undoubtedly this will start to open new doors for me.
Perlin noise, is again, something I've not seen in my standard GIMP, and I will review the forum for more information with regard to GMIC.

Finally, that gif was incredibly useful and has superseded the YouTube videos that I found earlier today about GIMPressionist.

Thanks everyone,

DPR

:) DPR, Noise is found in two areas in gimp.
1 in the initial drop down menu of filters and 1 under render in the same drop down menu

Dear Sallyanne,

Add this to another thing I've learned today (albeit quite embarrassingly).

Thank you!

You're welcome :) We are all learning new things everyday. I didn't notice this myself straight away but then my excuse is maybe it wasn't in the earlier versions of gimp :)
