GIMP Version: 2.8.14
Operating System: Windows
GIMP Experience: Basic Level

My mouse hand twitched or something while I was using the clone tool, and the tool options that had always been stuck on the left side of my screen is now a floating window.

How did I do that?

How do I put it back?

This dialog is prone to escape....

You can close it an recreate it :

This also tells you how you can lock it in place to curtail further attempts.

You can also drag it back to place (drag by the tab inside the window, not the title bar, and drop on the tabs line)

Funny thing is that I did the same thing on the right side of the screen, just after returning the Tool Options dialog to its rightful place: The Brushes dialog ended up floating about, rather than resting inside the right pane, where it had always been, before. I could not figure out how to get it back into place, and ended up removing and reinstalling the program (this afforded a small update, so all is well, I suppose).

I offer that the program needs a panic button we n00bs can hit to put everything back in its rightful place quickly and easily, that we aren't a bother to the experts whose patience and experience has proven invaluable time and again!

Thanks a bunch, and have a great day!

There is a panic button... Go to "Edit > Preferences" a window opens, click the "Reset" button on the bottom right ;)
