I don't use the portable Gimp.
But I was wondering if anyone knew if with 'portable Gimp', is there a 'personal Gimp directory' with brushes and all the other folders as there is for normal Gimp?

If so, is there a tutorial somewhere explaining how and where to create this 'splashes' folder to be able to show random Gimp splash screens with portable Gimp?

The reason I'm asking this is because I've received a few 'personal messages' from one of gimpchat's members asking me about this and they use portable Gimp.

I have partha gimp-painter 2.8 portable on USB, it seems to be fully portable with it's own (.gimp-2.8) personal folder included.

Thanks for the reply Odin...

So say if I were using 'portable Gimp' and I created a "splashes" folder in this location, would it work to display random Gimp splash screens as it does for a normal Gimp installation?

You guys are clearly talking about portable gimp not provided by me while both Odinbc and Onkel were responding to you based on my portable build.

That would not be my build. My build comes with an installer and creates its own .gimp-2.8 and does not interact with your system other than the tmp folder.

So, in my build, if you put multiple splash screens in the splash folder, as per gimp documentation, it will randomly pick the splash at boot.

You can download at the portable apps site. i use that one occasionally too and indeed the app folder there is used like the user folder. and there is a portable g'mic that was meant to go with the portable apps gimp, but i think that one was made to work with 2.6 and when you download gimp from the portable apps site now you always get 2.8. i only use the portable apps gimp about once every three months or so, so i've never really bothered to cry out for a new g'mic version.

One important thing to remember about portable apps is that, since they are self contained, you can have as many different versions on your system. They will not interfere with each other.

I was researching, as I like the single window mode best, and found that it is available in the recent Partha build.
However, I like mathmap, g'mic and gap...and not sure they are ALL included?

No, in 64-bit you cannot have mathmap and gap. You have g'mic. Note that my builds are primarily for photography.

Since they do not conflict to have more than one, I thought I would try another...where I can have Wallace's splash screens :)

My computer is a 64bit, but currently I run a 32 bit version of gimp portable, I guess because there was not a stable 64bit at the time. Whatever I get, it needs to be stable, I guess because I am not so stable and troubles confuse me.

64-bit is very stable.

However, not all confusion is bad. I learned a lot the last day or so, and that is good, Wallace...so no worries about opening a can of worms or causing me trouble, because you did not.

Let me know if you have issues. Either leave me feedback on my website (best way to reach me) or send me PM here.

Bonjour,

@Partha
On a 64-bit version for Windows you can use simultaneously GAP GMIC MathMap

64-bit versions are stable since Gimp 2.6.12
With a 64-bit version of Windows I recommend using a 64-bit version of Gimp :
- For example, G'MIC is faster ...
- Fewer problems on large computational operations.

I advise you not to use versions of the PortableApps which compressed and less efficient. Compression can cause problems with some plugins.

The best versions for Windows are on SourceForge and in Partha.

Only if the build is multilib since I have not succeeded in building a 64-bit MathMap or GAP. I think the question was whether it was included in my builds and I should have been more precise that it was not included in my builds. G'MIC has always been included as I mentioned above.
