GIMP Version: 2.8.2 Operating System: Linux OS Version: Debian 7.0 [b]GIMP Experience: Intermediate Level List any ERROR messages you received: "the image connector could'nt save your image to Jpeg" Hello, I work with gimp since as few months ago, my system is Debian (the new stable version, 7.0). Since 2 days I'm trying to export my images to Jpeg format, but it doesn't work, I've got this message: "the image connector could'nt save your image". I've reinstall Gimp, restart my computer, etc... but still doesn't work. Can anyone help me? Thanks! |

You can also check if your file-* plugins look correct, here are mine for Gimp 2.8.2 64-bit on Ubuntu 12.10: (open spoiler to see): Unless it's obvious that files have been damaged, re-installing of little use (remember, this is Unix, not WIndows). You can reset the Gimp profile by erasing/renaming the directory ~/.gimp-2.8 or, in this case, you can try to get the default plugin by erasing ~/.gimp-2.8/pluginrc. Gimp will rebuild one next time it starts but calling all the plugins one by one. So it would be a good idea to also do this from a terminal with --verbose to see if the plugin registration goes well. |

if the above does not work.... Never personally come across this error, only seen reports connected to very large images / lack of disk space. Assuming both these do not apply and something is broken. Gimp comes in 3 packages; gimp, libgimp2.0, gimp-data (all should be matching versions) and should pull in any dependencies. You should not need any dev packages unless you intend compiling yourself. When you reinstalled Gimp did you do a 'complete uninstall' all the three packages. gimp-data is just the resources, brushes, gradients etc, you could discount that but if anything is missing it is most probably in libgimp2.0. First thing I would try is fire up synaptic mark those three for a complete uninstall (no good just the gimp package on its own), do that, then install gimp again. On the other hand it could be something very different. I run a LM-debian with Gimp 2.8.4 and it runs without any problems (well nearly, only the script-fu gradient picker bug to fix) |
