Would would happen if I took all the scripts out of Program files and put them in my user ones, and also gradients, patterns etc. Would that screw things up?

I have 252 scripts in the user files and 484 in the program files, A lot of them are dupes.

I think the recommended way to do this is to have only scripts that come with GIMP in the program files area and everything you install afterwards in the users area.

To give you some idea which scripts come with GIMP, I've attached a list from my system that I think is a clean set of scripts as installed with GIMP. There's 97 .scm files and 3 .init files.

You should get rid of any duplicate scripts. I would also recommend creating some folders to place various scripts in so you don't have to have them all loaded at the same time (which can clutter the menus and waste memory).

You can create as many different folders as you like in the "Edit->Preferences" dialog.and GIMP will add any scripts it finds in those folders when you start GIMP, or when you perform a "Filters->Script-fu->Refresh Scripts".

You can then remove all the scripts in a particular folder by deleting the folder from that list in GIMP preferences (but leave the folder on your disk drive!) and refreshing your scripts. To add the scripts in a folder to your menus, add the folder to your Preferences list (using the first button at the top of the list) and then refreshing your scripts. (For example, if I wasn't planning on doing any document scanning for a while, I might remove the "Scans and Documents" folder from my list.)

Thank you Saul, I will print this and try to follow it.
I will first get rid of the script dupes between my user folder and the Program files folder

Saul has an excellent idea. You could also just use GURM but Sauls way is a lot easier to set up. :)

Thanks Saulgoode. Great information to have. I didn't know I was even supposed to have a "user" folder until about a month ago cuz I have gimp on my F drive. Now I can go clean it up good and proper. Me and Molly are gonna be busy for a while.

It's all goode!

Glad you got the water reflection script thingy fixed Molly.

At the risk of exposing my ignorance (again) What's a GURM. Do you have to feed them?

http://registry.gimp.org/node/13473 no I guess you don't feed them, just have to learn how to set it up, which I didn't do cuz it is too complicated.

Thanks Molly. After checking it out, I don't want to fool with it either. I'll just move the files manually, I at least know how to do that.

I hate computers!
