This is a first.
I can't figure out why this has happened. I was able to finish my work with the Windows asking for a disk for the "gimp-bin.exe" message still displayed on screen.
I had to force the message to close. It would not close otherwise.
My only guess is that it's a Win 7 issue.

Very strange??? :hoh

This same thing occurred while using "Ccleaner". That's why I feel it's a Win 7 issue. Only thing is that this message does not close, and I have to force it to close or do a reboot every time it happens.
This has happened twice with Ccleaner and now with Gimp.

Yeah, must be a 7 issue then.

Thanks Tux.
I figured out what was wrong, and it is a win 7 issue.
There's a "ErrorMode" reg hack that will stop these messages from occurring.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE_SYSTEM_CurrentControlSet_Windows
Image
There are 3 values, One: 0, Two: 1 and the third is 2.
"Zero" is the default value, which will show error message from windows and any running application.
"One" will only show windows error messages, and "Two" suppresses all of these messages.
You can only turn this "ErrorMode" on or off.
Of course there is disadvantages to making this reg change, but with this change the error message will not be shown. When windows is looking for a path for a running application that doesn't exist.
Obviously there is no disk for "gimp-bin.exe" that I'm aware of.
I just don't understand why windows would be looking for application paths that do not exist in the first place? :gaah

You're welcome, but be aware of the disadvantages of making this reg change.

I think 1 is a better choice, either way the problem is only hiding.
As for that message it's might be something stuck in ram.
or a drive letter conflict, in Windows D is normally assigned to the internal CD/DVD drive.
Do you have a removable drive, if so what's the drive letter assignment?
You change assignment with, MMC Disk Management tool.

Yes, only hidden...
This is a screenshot of my drives...

Still... if there's no conflict, why is windows looking for paths that don't exist. ie. a disk for "gimp-bin-exe"...
It also displayed this same message when trying to use Ccleaner, asking for a disk for a fully installed (C:) program. :gaah

Are you using a partha build?
Either way go to this thread at Flickr, search for "gimp-bin.exe". Read partha's reply.
This might mean you have a plug-in from somewhere compiled looking for D.
Worth a look anyway. At least your message is only annoying not destructive.

Yes "Partha", but I was using "bevel-reflect-logo.scm" when this occurred, and have used this .scm many times before without this error message.

It won't be that scrtipt but who know what was up.
Open the error console and try to reproduce.

I'm not sure how to reproduce this error. I'd have to re-edit the reg, but how can this explain why I'm being asked for paths that don't exist?
