List any relevant plug-ins or scripts:
Measurement tools guideline placement at end point.

When I use the measure tool, :measure to place a guideline, I can place a guideline horizontally at the end-point of the measurement by using the CTRL key, but can't place one vertically using the ALT key.
I did just get a new keyboard. I really don't think this has anything to do with it, but stranger things have happened.
Would anyone know what might be causing this?

Holding Ctrl key constrains guidelines to 15 degree increment, so if you need a vertical guideline just pull the cursor down.
You don't need Alt key, it's non-functional for the measurement tool anyway.

I can place a horizontal guideline at the end-point using the CTRL key.
So how do I place a vertical guideline at the end-point of a measurement?

Gimp documentation says, I can use ALT to place a vertical guideline at the end point of a measurement.

Well Wallace, the way I us it is I press the Shift Key and place the point and drag Horizontally to any distant. Then still holding the Shift key I swing it upward and I have the Vertical. I hope that help you :)

I can't get your explanation to work, when trying to place a guideline at the end point of a measurement.
Or maybe I just don't understand how you're getting this to work to creates a guideline at the end point of a measurement.

Same here (Linux) but the Alt-Control combo to get both guides works.

All the key combos work with my Gimp 2.6.10, including the ALT key for placing a guideline vertically at the end point of a measurement.

When using Gimp 2.8, I make a measurement, then press the ALT key, the cursor moves to the vertical position, but no guideline is placed vertically at the end point of my measurement. :?
The CTRL and all other key combos work in 2.8, except the ALT key for placing a guideline vertically at the end point of a measurement. :?
Am I nuts or what?

WTF! :gaah
That seems like a lot to do just to place a vertical guideline at the end point of a measurement.
It seems much easier to me to just press the ALT key, then click at the end point and create a vertical guide line.

Mine is working with either CTRL (Horizontal Guide), ALT (Vertical Guide) or the combo without any trouble.
Linux here as well.

Have you tried the R-Alt key instead just for kicks?

Edit: GIMP 2.8.10

I just tried that and it didn't work.

I Sill haven't found a way to place a vertical guideline at the end point of a measurement in Win7 Gimp 2.8.10.
Is this only happening to me? :hoh

At first I was failing. But after seeing the image in #4, I could understand how to proceed.

Fine here, with either CTRL (Horizontal Guide), ALT (Vertical Guide).

Are you using Win7 OS and Gimp 2.8.10?

If it is working in 2.6, then I would certainly tend to lean towards a bug.

I have always used SHIFT CTRL ALT for menu shortcuts. Lately ALT will not work so I'm limited to SHIFT and/or CTRL. Have re-installed 3 times in the last couple of weeks.
WALLACE - OFNUTS: Do you know the limit for brushes patterns scripts etc in GIMP please?
Thats win8.1 and G2810.

It may not be limited to any number of brushes etc, but balanced by how much memory you want to use while running gimp. Any extra add-on like brushes, plugins and fonts, require more loading time and memory specific for any program, so you could add more brushes or whatever, but what may be wiser is to only download items you need, and then only install brushes you want to use for the project at hand, and leave extras in zip files for later.
However, it's possible that the Gimp may have a limit on how many brushes you can LOAD (have active) at one time; it's possible the program might slow down if you have too many brushes loaded. You may want to take the approach of looking at the brushes you use most and group them together or only have what's needed.
You may also what to look into the GIMP Unified Resource Manager (GURM).

Also, if you use brush manager you can have all your brushes in your own folders and just tick the ones you want to open. It is a great plug-in

I'd recommend a brush manager.
viewtopic.php?f=9&t=7171
It works perfectly on my machine. The only downside to a brush manager is you can't use the built in tagging system. Instead you sort your brushes into named folders and load only the sets you need.

That may be so, because from what I can remember it did work for me at one point.
I'm going to check my updates.
