Hi,

I used to be able to hover my mouse over one of the tools in the toolbox and it would display the name of the tool. It now doesn't do that. I have been into preferences to see if there was something in there relating to it but haven't been able to find it. Can anyone help me solve this problem please?

Irobyn this can happen with some Themes if you have changed yours,go back to the default and test again

Does it still work on other icons other than Gimp's, such as system icons?

Oregonian yes...if you mean if I hover the mouse over icons in the dock, yes it does work. This problem is just within Gimp for some reason. It is most annoying as I have to go to the Tools Menu if I don't know what I am looking for.

Further to this...it could be a Yosemite thing. I remember when I upgraded to Mavericks that things changed within Gimp so maybe it is something which is not compatible.

Also, if i want to undo anything I have to right click on the layer and undo that way - I can't click Edit and Undo - Select None is the same - I have to right click to be able to do it. Something is not right obviously.

In GIMP, click Edit > Preferences. In Preferences select Help System. Be sure Show Tool tips is selected and Show Help buttons is selected, then click OK.
