Is there a tutorial on how to make a glossy tech orb sig with vents with Gimp? If so, please provide the link. :tyspin

There are plenty of tutorials on youtube about how to make a glossy/glass orb, but don't think there's one with vents.
I don't even know how you would work a vent into an orb.
Do you have any kind of example images you could show us?

You also might want to have a look here, but there's still no vents...

The short answer is: Yes. There is always a way.

The long answer is: It all depends on what you're envisioning. I can make a logo sig with orbs and vents and you're going to be confused by what I was thinking. Glossy tech orbs is vague. There's a hundred and fifty million different kinds of vents. You get the idea. Like Wallace said, an example image might help or a better description of what kind of style you're aiming for. Because the Matrix is a different kind of tech sci-fi than, say, Dr. Who. (I'm not even sure the doctor is a tech sci-fi thing tbh.)

So, now we got visual. The next step is for someone to pick it apart and see what can be done in gimp. I'll take a crack at it and see what I can finger out.

I would visit this page Gimp Chat Tutorials Index and scroll down to Draconian Metal Wurx Series,

The tutorials of interest would be

MW#17 - Metallic Control Knob
MW#19a - Indicator Lights - Part A (PDF)

As both show how to make a metallic outline that can have an orb inserted into them instead of the tutorial requirements but worth reading through the others as well.

As to a glossy orb tutorial, I would recommend my own tutorial

Glossy Ball Tutorial although an improved xcf of this can be downloaded from HERE

or this tutorial

Ron Scott's Tutorial - Glassy Spheres

My avatar was made by combing both of these techniques for base and orb.
