GIMP Version: 2.8.14
Operating System: Windows
OS Version: 7 Home Premium
GIMP Experience: Beginner Level

List any relevant plug-ins or scripts:
gimp and G'MIC

List any ERROR messages you received:
could not locate in dynamic link library. zlib1.dll

Downloaded and installed latest version of G'MIC and it seemed to upset everything. So I have deleted all versions of gimp and G'MIC off my computer.
Downloaded yesterday a 2.8.14 gimp but is has lots of stuff missing. I still need the 32 bit and couldn't find one on Partha's site so got a package from the Gimp site by Jernej Simončič'.
I also get this error when opening this gimp but it still opens after I click on ok. I left a message in Partha's thread as well and David's thread re the G'MIC.
I haven't downloaded another G'MIC because gimp isn't working properly for me yet.

Please help! (I wont be back for another 10 hours) Hope someone has an answer to help me so I can fix it tonight.

Sallyanne,

Don't worry about it. I just have not had time to make a 32-bit build. Once it's done, you'll be good to go. How much patience do you have? :)

Thanks Partha, I knew you would have it eventually.. Just not a lot of patience last night ;)

@ Graechan, the G'mic was a zipped folder that I downloaded I think. I extracted it into it's own folder then moved the unzipped one to plugins. Because I had no luck with that I took all the files out of that folder and put them in the plugins folder outside of the G'MIC folder.
I did take a G'MIC program out and put it on my desktop which was a previous version too.

did you check if Zlib was in the gmic files, because it is already in the Gimp/bin folder

I think it may have been because I still have one (zlib1.dll) in my plugins folder.
Oh and when I originally put the files in that folder I wrote over at least 5. Couldn't tell you which ones but I do know there were more files than that but apparently 5 had the same name.

if you have 2 of any dll files then neither will work and gimp and gmic both need zlib1.dll
so if there is one in your bin folder delete the one in your plugins folder

Where do I find the 'bin' folder?
Looked in a couple places. May not have looked in the correct place though.

Sallyanne did you try using windows explorer to look for it, if you open your gimp folder it is right there towards the top like below

No (duh) I didn't  . Will go look now
Funny I dont have a 'plain' gimp 2 folder anymore that I can see. Only 2 x 2.8 gimp folders. I found a 'bin' folder through doing a search but I think another program on my computer uses one too. BTW I don't have that 32 folder - not sure if I should have. And everytime I try to call windows explorer up - libraries opens instead which only has about 4 folders in it. Documents, Pictures, Music, Videos.

When windows explorer shows your file right click on it and select show file in folder

Looks like my 'view' was different so I couldn't see it. Found it in libraries or is libraries the same thing as explorer?
I found two bin folders and there was no zlib in either one.
I am thinking since the gimp version I downloaded last night doesn't work properly I should delete it and wait patiently until Partha does a 32 bit.
What do you advise?

Hi there - i am new to the board and the confirmation mail told me I have to make 1 post
or my account will be deleted.

So I post here now because I updated gimp on win7 home premium aswell - but 64bit
and am looking for g'mic plugin aswell. is it working now? before i was looking around
but it seemed to me that the gimp version right before didn't support g'mic anymore
like the older versions...

well, i want to follow a sourceforge download now - i will see... tinyurl . com / puvad7m

it works fine with me on 64bit - the sourceforge download - i also take a look at the 32bit file now
I choose this one: gmic_gimp_win32.zip

when I unzip it into a folder the zlib1.dll file is nested in the _gmic folder - well, this is different to the 64bit vers.
can you try to lift the file one floor up to the main plug-ins folder?

Thanks for checking the 32 bit CodaAlFine but I am sure I looked there and I don't want that one, I want Partha's build. Usually his builds are often more likely to be compatible with what we have and are usually better.
I am glad it is all working for you.

By the way
Welcome to Gimp Chat :)

Is it Rod?
When I downloaded it I didn't have script-fu in my top menu. alpha to logo or create logos - gimp Chat logos where they should be. Or G'MIC
Downloaded it again and it is still the same as before. Well the 32 bit is.

thank you sallyanne for the welcome :p
i understand now what you mean. you have this special scripts and professional tools
which work much better with individually binaries like Partha's.

... wow!! such a big honor to meet Partha in this forum!! I just coped to install the
gimp32bit on my virtual PC XP mode - plugins work - but YOU need this SPECIAL task - sorry.

I read partha's page - at least I updated my cygwin tools and gcc -v spits more and more verbose stuff now
and i have the git shell - so that would be a great thing to be able to compile the newest gimp sources
and in the same time starting to use those unix tools. of course partha's howtos provide more and different infos.

this is a real freaky forum here with lots of experts
