Because they are particularly mostly styles for the Layer Styles filter, they would never work in Gimp correctly.
No you cannot use ASL files, but you can use ATN files if you have the plug-in.

You will also have to rename the file gimp-2.6 in the bin folder to gimp-2.4, then install the program and rename gimp back to gimp-2.6 or Gimp will not start.
The Gimp# program see's the program as a version other than 2.4 this is the reason for the rename.
Just be sure and name it back to gimp-2.6 after!Most ATN files work with it, but not all because they also sometimes use the Layer Styles plugin for PS.
