Don't have any other selections. I learnt that awhile back.
Not had this problem before.
After running the script I wanted to stroke it to make it thicker and hopefully more tubular. Maybe do that later. I had brush dynamics on 'colour with gradient' and to use brush dynamics when stroking.
Does it matter what mode the layer is in? I changed it to screen.

When you stroke a path with a gradient, you have to specify a fade length in the brush tool options to spread the gradient over the path. If you want that value to match the actual path length, you can use my path-summary script to obtain the length of the path and its individual strokes.

If you want a transverse gradient, maybe neon-path can do it.

Sallyanne, it should be under your path dialogue if you already made your path, right click and if you see Decorate > Neon
# Usage:
# - Define path. For text: use "stroke" fonts, and "path from text" in the text tool
#   see also my "unclose-path" plug-in
# - Define current gradient, left color as darkest color, right color as lightest
# - In Paths dialog, right click on path, and select Decorate>Neon
# - Plugin will create layer with neon rendering of path
# - If a "Glow value is used, a second layer is generated with a blurred image

I just checked mine and the Decorate isn't there anymore.

Should still be Decorate>Neon. Plug-in hasn't changed since April 2011... Has it got the executable flag?

You are right ofnuts, somehow the permissions disappeared. I have used that script a lot of times and I sure don't know how that can get unclicked by itself. Anyway, THANKS

Are you running linux or windows? If you are using Linux you have to make sure your permissions is clicked. If you are running windows, did you go to the path tab, right click, and decorate/Neon should be on the list. Make sure you already have a path to right click on.

Molly I don't have a path tab except in 'dockable toolbars.' I have found summary which is what I needed.
Still not sure what it is supposed to do. I click on summary and nothing happens. Only when i click on generate intermediate paths does a dialogue come up.
Oh and By the way I run windows. Thanks.

I don't know why you haven't got a paths tab added from your dockable dialogues. In layers, make a path, Select > to Path > Select > NONE. Then in your paths dialogue, your path with be there, right click on that and where you see Decorate > Neon, click that to get your Neon dialogue

I made some tests and these are MY results
my settings

Image

1.the first time the paintbrush mode should be NORMAL other modes are not working
2.if you repeat the stroke you can use other modes
3.for better results the Repeat setting should be Triangular wave
4.the LAYER MODE dont modify the stroke

I didn't download the neon path Molly only the summary one.
I have found where it is now if I put a path dockable dialogue in. It is under tools - summary, when I right click on it. But nothing is happening with it.
It is supposed to show a summary of the path but I am getting nothing.

Thanks Marcello I'l have a go at that.
Got it! I made my first brush from a picture yesterday and I even did it with that!

Molly I may download the other script at a later date. Thanks for all your help.

The summary shows up either as a dialog or in your error console if it is up.

Thanks, I just found out why it wasn't showing. The error dialogue must have got knocked out when I added two other tabs. I just added it back and it had been showing. I will do more tomorrow, um later today.
