GIMP Version: 2.8.10
Operating System: Windows/Macintosh. I have access to both. Whichever would be easier to do this with, I'll use.
OS Version: Windows 8.1, or Macintosh OSX 10.9
GIMP Experience: Beginner-Basic Level

Hi Gimpchat! I'm WBrocket. This is my first time on the site, so I'm going to apologize in advance for not knowing and of the fancy lingo. Along with that, I am pretty new to GIMP, and Graphic Design in general, so I will probably end up asking a lot of stupid/simple questions. Intros aside, I am rebooting an Old Steam group, the Total War Historical Society. I want to make the group as "official" as possible, and I decided that I'll throw together a Wallpaper for the group.(BTW, if you're a fellow fan of the Total war series, and something like a Total War Historical Society sounds fun, shoot me a Message @WBrocket on steam.) Shameless promotion/geeking out aside, here is what I'm looking for. I don't intend to make it very original or fancy at all, but I figured that doing it myself would be a pretty good way to kill some time on my sick day. If someone really, really wants to make this for me, or has a better idea for a logo that they feel like making, I won't complain, but I'm not asking for this thing to be handed to me on a silver platter. All I really want is this-
Image
But with the rustic gold bevel look that the Actual logo has. I would prefer it the font that the original logo was in, or a similar one, but I imagine that that is a pretty unrealistic goal, and the next best bet would be a cursive look similar to the one in that image. I don't want to waste anybody's time, but I am a pretty big newb when it comes to GIMP, and I'll probably need a stupid amount of help in each step. For example, when I first started this project, I looked up "what is the part of words that stick out in picture called" :hehe Here is the original image, in case someone DOES feel like doing it for me-
Image

Thanks for your help!

Edit- Me being the genius I am, I neglected to see the "Attach File" section on the create post screen. so the original picture file will be there as well.

UPDATE- It would appear that the Font used is Tragan Pro. Other then that, I haven't managed to figure anything else out. There are some tutorials on mettalic Gold bevels on the web, but the logo appears to be more of a dull, almost bronze like color.

.tff extensions cannot be shared on Gimpchat, so you'll have to find the font yourself. However, it is pretty common, so it shouldn't be too difficult to find. I downloaded mine from Of course, if you don't like download links on the web, you can use another popular font site.

-WBrocket

EDIT Had to remove the link, it looks to spammy. I got it from fontpalace, if you can't find it anywhere else

I think your gold text looks good. You may be interested in looking over Molly's Lord of the Rings tutorial. Here is an example of using the script (you'll want v2.6).

Welcome to the forum WBrocket.

I have Medieval: Total War, but haven't played it in a while. I could probably help you out with the making of this wallpaper. I like doing this kind of stuff.
What does the SPQR inside the banner, just below the eagle stand for?

Okay, thanks Oregonian.
Why didn't I think to search for the answer. I thought it had something to do with the game.

As to the SPQR, The Senate And People of Rome.
Here is my attempt at the Background, using the Recommended LOTR script-
Image
I would say it came out okay, but I'm a bit of a perfectionist, and this just doesn't do it for me. First main issue, the font is too low definition for it to be really useful, as it causes all of the weird bars. if anyone knows an easy method for increasing font resolution, it would be greatly appreciated. Second issue, it still looks too metallic-y, IMO. the logo is almost a waxy color. does anyone know how I would go about getting that to come out correctly? Sorry, I know I'm pretty picky. I just can't help myself :P :tyspin

-WBrocket
PS I am aware that the "Historical" is overlapping in that picture. I fixed in in the actual copy, but I was too lazy to fix the one here.

You can turn down the contrast on the gold logo/crest and or text, that might help. Afterall it is gold text you're after, which is by all or most effects metallic looking.

I believe that there is some confusion. This-
Image
Is the base picture/background. I am unable to really edit it (IE, the text, the Gradient). I'm trying to add the Total War: Historical Society 2.0 Into it, and have it appear identical or very similar to the Total War: Rome II text. Sorry for the confusion.

Welcome to GC WBrocket!

Love History, read tons of books on ancient Roman, Greek and Egyptian history. I know what SPQR means
and even included it in my Blender made weathered gold text effect - viewtopic.php?f=22&t=6747&hilit=blender+text+effect :)

Thanks O! :bigthup
I think I should have left the text information with the xcf file intact. Also, maybe the text could have been larger too.
