I have been trying to find a better way to make lens flares in Gimp and the best I can come up with takes a lot of different brushes multiple filters and layers, and quite a bit of time to say the least. I have watched several tutes and so far my way of making flares is much simpler and faster but still time consuming. Although Gimp has a lens flare plugin that isn't too bad (but it's always the same flare), and a Gflare that's very adjustable (but looks very fake) I would like to ask for help finding a better way. If anyone here knows of a link to a plugin or script that might help, or a direction on where to focus my search I would be forever thankful. Thanks in advance.

Yep, I found that vid link on this page
http://gimper.net/threads/lens-flares-a ... hhh.13803/
I got pretty excited when I saw Rod was making a script, but I didn't see a download for it. Spent the rest of the day going through the plugins and scripts on that site but no luck.

Actually i advised David to ask Graechan to setup his filter for lens flares. :) Don't know if he ever asked or not though.

Thank you Rod :) I had inquired about a flare script at GimpScripts a while back, I followed a lens flare tag on Graechan's Space Text script and was politely directed to Gimp chat :runpup lol, so I'm guessing he didn't :hehe

I PM'ed Graechan with some info on the algorithm for the script. The ball is in his court now. :)

:coolthup Wow! Thank you Rod :yr Can I ask one more thing? I'd like to share the brushes I use for flares with everyone but haven't the slightest on how to do that lol (sorry for not being the sharpest dart on the board)

I love using Lens Flares, but I just use pre-made images of them when I want to use one. I don't like the Gimp's Lens Flare filter at all.
Maybe if Graechan can somehow improve on this that would be great.

Have a look at G'MIC Lights & shadows / Relief light.
To get a feel for it (on a #b2b2b2 background) start by playing with the Darkness slider & toggle Opacity as heightmap.

The GC-Lens Flare script works on a selection or path (but more controllable with path)

It's never been posted, as it is only a rough script put together to play with paths, and it's not that good
