GIMP Version: 2.8.10
Operating System: Windows
GIMP Experience: Basic Level

Hello,

I want to save new brushes or patterns and such to the folders in Gimp program files from my computer's user account vs. my admin account. I tried to give my user account permission via windows but that did not work, still get error message.

And if I go into edit > preferences in Gimp and click on the folder I want to give myself permission to add something to, over to the right I see that my user name is checked...yet, I keep getting the error message that I do not have permission if I want to add anything to my Gimp program files.

I don't like having to keep going back and forth from user to admin in order to add things...so any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
Mel

Are you on a network or is it your own computer?

I am on a network within my home and I have my "share files and printer" turned on. Though I already went into my admin account and went into the Gimp patterns program folder and clicked on "share with" and from there I added my user account to have full permissions for that folder and its files. I then went back to my user account and restarted Gimp and still getting that error message saying no writable permissions.

I seem to recall being able to set permissions from Gimp preferences vs. Windows but as mentioned, in Gimp preferences I see my user account name checked on the folders I want control of and it's still not working. Am I missing something?

I think Gimp considers the installation directory as not writable (you won't be able to Save patterns/brushes to it). What you can do is define a shared/public folder somewhere on your network, and add it to the folders checked by Gimp in Edit/Preferences/Folder (on each PC).

Which version of Windows are you using (eg. Win Vista/7/8, 32bit/64bit) ?
