GIMP Version: 2.8.10
Operating System: Windows
GIMP Experience: Basic Level

List any relevant plug-ins or scripts:
fontconfig

I would like to hide the fonts contained in windows font folders from the selection inside GIMP, so that only my fonts in specified folders are displayed.

It seems like editing fonts.conf might be the answer, but I couldn't get it working so I tried deleting the file altogether. It worked to an extent, but I was unable to type many things into the text tool.

That would be really simple... Now why doesn't my GIMP have that.

The folder paths listed are just two of GIMP's folders and my specified font folder.

first= my suggestion is not working ( I tested)
second = the first 2 lines are by default and the other two are my additional links to other font folders

I thought I got it by removing WINDOWSFONTDIR from fonts.conf, but then I can't type Japanese. If I then add windows\fonts to the font paths inside GIMP Preferences it works. I tried letting it build the font cache and then do the fonts.conf edit but I still can't type Japanese; it ends up as symbols that look like squares with alphanumerics inside of them.
