I have an image on a background (all one layer) I have made transparent and would like to know how I can select just the image so I can grow it? Hope this makes sense lol

In Layers Dialog: right-click on the layer then click on "Alpha to Selection".

You can only grow the whole layer, but what is transparent remains transparent, so the visible result is your scaled up object. After that there are ways to crop the layer to make fit the canvas again (Select >All/Layer>Crop to selection)

not really sure what your asking but I would try putting rectangle select tool around your image and then scale image larger using scale tool perhaps I should have said object instead of image that you want to grow

Once it is one layer it can't be done like ofnuts said. Which is why I mentioned to auto crop your image. You can then try to scale the image larger if you want. If you scale it up too much though it will have a pixellated look.
