Hello. I am a long time gimp user, new gimp with mac user. I downloaded gimp to my new macbook and all seemed well until I went to use tool options. When the layers and tool options are in the dock, they are all grayed out but if they are separated from the toolbox they work. How can I fix this. I would like to work with all my tools and options in the toolbox so there aren't as many windows floating around. I have attached screenshots as file attachments below.

This may or may not work.

Go to Edit > Preferences > Toolbox and check there to see if the options are turned on (eye to the left visible).

I realize I'm reviving a dead topic and that may be against the rules and if so I'm sorry. But, this is the top Google result for "grayed out Tool Options in Gimp" so that's why I'm taking the liberty to reply..

The solution to a grayed out tool options problem is to go to Gimp > Preferences > Tool Options > Reset Saved Tool Options to Default Values. Next just restart Gimp.

I'm on Mac OS X, Gimp 2.10

The problem appears to be caused by dragging the icon for the size of a brush to the left side of the screen from the tool options box.. Cheers

I am suddenly seeing this issue with 2.10.4.

I'm using the Text Tool and suddenly, all the options in the toolbox will be greyed out. I have to shut down Gimp and start it up again, but after a short while it will happen again. Frustrating.
