one way

Set the FG colour
Enable the alpha lock
Paint over the arrow.

But then it comes down to saving format, your resulting jpeg does not look great because of jpeg artifacts. Try saving as a png.

peap: i second that about exporting as png! here's another way to colour it smoothly:
1. make a new layer on top of the first.
2. fill the new layer in a shade you want.
3. set the layer mode on that new layer to "overlay".
4. play with the "hue-saturation" tool on the new layer til you get the exact shade you're after.

this is the result i got with that method - not a bad one if you take into account that the original was small and low resolutioned.

You could use the path tool, :pathtool and trace your arrow. Then stroke it with the color you want at a size of maybe 1-3.

I just alpha to select then to path, and stroke path 6px with your color then selected a darker color and stroke path with 1px so everything is still stroked within the original alpha to selection selection.

It does look a little thicker than your original too though.

here's another try:

I drew curved paths to match your image, then stroked with brush dynamics (brush size of 3) then stroked path again with solid line with width of 2 px wide.

with this image I created a curved path then used ofnuts 'arrow head' from paths decorate to finish the curved arrow and stroked with a 2 pixel line

it was fast but effective

Here's my try. I did the same as rich2005 (alpha lock and paint with the color '#eb1478') but with a slight twist. I copied the layer 6x and merged viable layers, then turned alpha lock off, and using the free select tool around the arrow, invert selection, and erased over the the whole thing.
Made one for Wallace too ;)

That's really nice of you to make me one of these arrows in my favorite color. Thanks Charlie! :jumpclap

Wouldn't it be using the current foreground color, so you would just just change that (click on the color swashes in the tool box)

You change the foreground color using the tool box,
not form the script.

I don't see what's displayed in your graphic.

Can you see my Browsed to file and opened and hopefully uploaded now?

I can't see my file here.

I click to Browse and it displays the file name in the little viewing box.

I then click Add File and it disappears.

What's going on.

Thanks.

The original question was about changing the colour of a graphic (an arrow ) which was already created and your question is about the colour for a new arrow.

The arrow script is (personally) my favourite for various reasons, except for the default values which I modified.

My modified script attached (remember to unzip it), all kudos goes to the creator. Berengar W. Lehr

Whether you use the original or the attached the procedure is the same.

Set the foreground colour you need.
Make a path, remember the starting point of the path is the arrow head. (In this example 4 nodes)

Image

Invoke the script, change the parameters to whatever you require.

Image

If using a multi-node path there will be an information message. Does it matter - No.
Click ok and close.

Image

not rocket science

Could you pls post a step by step with graphics to show me?

I'm a novice.

I installed the arrow.sm and I can draw an arrow.

I don't see how I can make the black arrow I'm stuck with red or yellow or any color I want.

I don't see how I can make that arrow thinner.

The arrow points down to left at a 45 degree angle.

Is there an easy way to flip that arrow so it's instead pointing up to he right at a 45 degree angle?

I've Googled this for an hour with no results.

Thank you!

Deep breaths.

First - when you post graphics on this forum I try to save by highlighting them and pressing Ctrl/C and then open MSWord and press Ctrl/V but 1/2 of your graphics are off the page so you can't see them.

How can I copy (other than doing a print-screen page by page by page) your graphics so I can review them offline?

Second - I can access the color scheme in the black and white square boxes but that brings up this whole box where you have to input lots of numbers to eventually get a red or yellow. Isn't there a simpler way to get a red or yellow arrow? I have no idea what numbers I need to set in that box to get red or yellow.

Third - when I draw the arrow it won't let go, hence all those extra lines like spaghetti all over the place. How do you make GIMP stop drawing once you've reached how large you wan the arrow?

I face the same dilemma when I use the Tools>Selection Tools>Free Select. You draw the area you want but GIMP won't let go so you end up with lines all over the graphic.

I've tried pressing the Escape key, the F1 key but nothing seems to inform GIMP to stop line drawing.

Thank you for your help.
