thanks Jonathan
I was really surprised not to have many default folders and files created with gimp installation here (windows 8.1 64-bits), I was used to have all the default folders and files set up in my home pc (windows 7 32-bits) when installing Gimp

Hi, Kevin, sorry I have not had a chance to do much to your project. I had selected the looking glass to show magnification. I do not have much time in the next day or so , therefore perhaps someone else would like to do that icon? Wallace??????

I hope that you don't mind jontait2? I made a few alterations of my own on the GEGL xcf file you uploaded.

Well I've finished off the last couple of toolbox icons, now it's up to someone with a high resolution screen to tell us what else, if anything, also needs to be enlarged.

My monitor supports 1080p, is that good enough?

That's not a question I can answer. It's up to you to decide if the icons are big enough for you on that screen.

Edit: And to answer you question about fonts - they need to be system installed fonts to be used for the labels in GIMP:

I installed the Opticon font to my system and added this to the Default-32 gtkrc file:
style "gimp-default-style"
{
  font_name = "Opticon, 10"

I've just returned to this as it all came to a halt, and recently there has been a lot of work done by someone else to make scalable versions of all the icons for the 2.9.x icon themes.

Here's a GIMP 2.8 theme I've put together, having generated 32x32 icons from the scalable versions:

The gimp-tool-colorize icon got a bit mangled during the conversion (lost its roller)

Good job on the icons! Where can I obtain the theme?

If you want the 32x32 icons, I'll generate the latest set and post a zip file here.

Klaus adds more of the missing icons every day.
See the GIMP git log: https://git.gnome.org/browse/gimp/log/

Thank you Kevin. Any idea on how to get the aurora engine to work in GIMP-2.9 versions?
I can get the Preferences to change the theme on the fly but when i reload the GIMP program it crashes until i change the gimprc theme type/name. :)

The error suggests that the program cannot find the aurora engine to run the theme dynamically. My Metallic Blue Licorice theme however is all self contained and should work. No aurora dll file is needed.But it still crashes.

Here's the latest version of 32x32 theme using the SVG source.

@Rod

As GIMP on Windows doesn't ship with the aurora engine, for you to have got an aurora based theme to work on 2.8.x you must have installed it yourself. Doesn't Partha bundle up the various theme engines in his bloated builds? But then he messes with the default theme anyway so it's not a good way of testing what's wrong.

I'm not surprised that existing themes will have problems. With 2.9.undetermined having introduced Icon Themes there may be unwanted interactions and I can crash 2.8 with the theme I made for 2.6

The only way I know of finding the problem would be to make a copy of the gtkrc file and start commenting things out (or commenting it all out, then progressively add things back)
