First thing comes to mind is using a Channel mask.
Can you provide a bit more information?

When I scale an image say for example 500 to 300 I get semi transparent pixels?

If there are no transparent pixels in the original image, there shouldn't be any after re-scaling either.

Can you attach a copy of one of these images for us to try ?

Use the "Layer->Scale Layer..." command instead of the Scale Tool :scale

Also, use Cubic interpolation rather than Lanczos.

@Deblk
Neither of those images has any transparent pixels at all ..in fact, they don't even have an alpha channel ..so they are completely opaque.

I think the problem you have is actually intermediate colours.
The first image contains just 6 unique colours (Colour> Info> Colourcube Analysis...) This was probably originally an INDEXED image rather than RGB.

But the second image contains 1730 unique colours ..these extra colours are generated by the interpolation when you scale the image in RGB mode.

The simplest solution is to change the image mode back to INDEXED before scaling the image (Image> Mode> Indexed).
This will, of course, make the image appear rather pixellated, but if this is for your knitting/crochet patterns work, that doesn't matter.

Yes this was an image that I indexed then reverted back to RGB...I will index it again to scale it then I will touch it up manually....thanks for your help :)
