I've been getting these messages whenever I upload new patterns/brushes to GIMP....I've attached a file here with a screenshot of the message.

I've got to figure out what I'm doing wrong

Thanks

you should always add brushes and patterns in your personal directories (/User/username/.gimp-2.8/), not in Program Files.
Better also to have a Resource Manager like the Addons Collections Manager by Ofnuts

I would concur with what Dinasset has said in regards to where to install any additional patterns of brushes etc.

Also be sure the files extension for any pattern is the correct file extension which is .pat.
Any brush you install also has to have the correct file extension.
For Gimp brushes the file extension is .gbr.
For any Adobe/Photoshop brush, the file extension is .abr.

Keep in mind that when you download brushes or patterns etc.
They are often contained in some sort of compressed folder/file format.
These compressed files/folder will need to have their contents extracted before installation into the proper folders within Gimp.

@countrygirl

I love these catalogues of disasters ;)

I think I found the file but....
1. Correct location but you really should have un-zipped the file first.
2. In the download you’ll find an Illustrator pattern and a PNG thumbnail image:
An EPS file that you can load into Adobe Illustrator (or your favorite vector editor)

You might get a usable Gimp pattern out of that, if you can open the eps file and export in a suitable format.

Quote:
Failed to load image
'C:\Program Files\GIMP 2\share\gimp\2.0 \patterns\ACU-l.gbr': Image has zero width

.gbr is a Gimp brush not a pattern. Move the file to C:\Users\Lavonda\.gimp-2.8\brushes

Quote:
Fatal parse error in pattern file
'C\Program Files\GIMP 2\share\gimp\2.0\patterns\christmas_patterns_ashzstock.pat': Unknown pattern format version 65536.

That is a horrible one, the only places I found want user information facebook/google+ etc so I did not bother.
Best guess: It is a very recent PS pattern file that Gimp can not handle. (or might be malware)
Regardless, should have gone in C:\Users\Lavonda\.gimp-2.8\patterns

For using Gimp resources and how to find the locations to install, a little old but still valid see:
