The measuring tool :measure will not put out a vertical guide, when using the ALT key guide line feature of this tool.

Anyone else using Fedora/Linux and Gimp 2.8.16 having this issue?

Same here with Uduntu and 2.8.16, no vertical guide using Alt + Left click. Both Ctrl + Left click for a horizontal guide and Ctrl + Alt + Left click for vertical and horizontal guides work normally. The mouse pointer changes but no vertical guide.
That's a puzzler. :puzzled

Yes!?
I had this same problem in Windows, but only when using an Alt-Drag script to move and resize open windows.

Thanks Rich for that quick demo.
Unfortunately the Shift>Alt also doesn't produce a vertical guideline.
However, the other guide function using Ctrl>Alt dose produce to correct guide placements.
I had such high hopes that this would work. :(

Such is life

It is worth trying some of the other function keys and combinations

I have an old laptop with Mint MATE + Gimp 2.9.1 installed.

For a vertical guide there,
alt and the cursor changes but no click action
shift-alt and the cursor changes but no click action
alt (first) +left windows key - click - bingo it works

weird but there you go.

Yeah, I'll try that combo and see if it works.

Edit:
The Windows+Alt key combo worked to create the vertical guideline placement.
I'm not sure if this key combo for the measuring tool can be seen, or changed in the preference, but I'll have a look.
Thanks again Rich. :bigthup
