 Post subject: Advice for an effect

Operating System: Windows
OS Version: 10
GIMP Experience: Basic Level



Here is something I made some time ago. I also attached the xcf for help.

What I wanted and tried really hard to get was an effect of the text being inscribed/chiseled in the paper/wall behind it but all attempts failed. I have tried similar things in previous arts too but could never get it to look the way I want it to.

Can somebody tell my the way something like text can be made to look as if it is carved out of the background?
