I have just installed 2.9.5 and when I open a NEF file (6000x4000pixel) the picture
opened will be 160x120 pixel. This is the first time I try 2.9.5 uploaded from Partha and there is also
the RAW editor Photoflow installed. I thought that the RAW file should be opened automatically in Photoflow
but instead it will be opened in GIMP with 160x120 pixel. Have I missed some settings or .....
Hope someone can give me a solution

I also see it's just experimental at this stage so you may have found a bug that needs fixing

I think Gimp is opening the embedded thumbnail, because it didn't recognize the file type. If you use File>Open in Gimp, do you see the NEF format as a possible option in the file types?

Yes when I choose the OPEN option I will see the NEF files and I can see when I click to see the preview that they are around 10 MB big

As far as I know, Partha's version of GIMP is storing the console messages into a temporary log file (or at least it does that in the OSX version). Would you be able to post or PM the contents of the log file after you unsuccessfully opened the NEF image?

I can ask Partha about the location of the log file if you have no idea where to find it.

P.S: I am the author of the photoflow plug-in, and I'm really interested to help you on this and see how to fix the issue. NEF loading should work fine.

Hello, GIMP 2.9.5 can't open raw files. You need a plugin or an external program that demosaics the raw file. Quick, easy and lightweight is Dave Coffins dcraw convertor (a commandline program). Full-blown raw convertors are RawTherapee or Darktable, among others.

The windows version provided by Partha comes with the PhotoFlow loading plug-in, which automatically takes care of opening and processing RAW files and to send the result back to GIMP. Very much like the UFraw plug-in, but more powerful and modern... however, this doesn't seems to work for the OP, and we need to find out why.

I'm not sure if Partha is planning to provide 32-bits GIMP packages. From my side, I can provide a 32-bit version of the stand-alone PhotoFlow application, if you are interested...

Could you try opening the NEF file again and post or PM the content of the GIMP log file?
Here is how to find it: "It's stored in the $TEMP folder. It's typically located at C:\Users\YourUserName\AppData\Local\Temp. For the portable version, it's called __gimprun-2.9-run.log; for the regular versions, __gimp-2.9-run.log or __Gimp-2.9-cc-run.log.""

Unfortunately, Partha does not compile GIMP 32bit been more than two years.
I tried to compile the same - but I did not give advice already at VIPS...
Maybe Dariusz Duma?

I have tried to find the log file but I was not able to find it.
When I try to open the NEF file I got the error message:
"TIFF picture: unknown field tag 36867, 37398 .....

When I open the file in Rawterapy it works

In which folders have you searched the log file exactly? Have you tried to search a file name pattern like *run.log in C:\Users?

If you are using Partha's version of GIMP, then the log file should be there. If not, we should file a bug report to Partha...

I found that I can not send a txt file with Upload attachment. There can only be used jpg, bmp ......

Use a file compression format (zip), to 'Upload attachment' a *.txt file.

Off topic. Ah yes, now I remember I tried to compile your plugin on Xubuntu somewhere last year, but that didn't work for some unknown reasons, we discussed on Pixls.us about that...

I got your log file, and I think I found the reason why it does not get loaded by photoflow.
Here is what I see in the log:

magic match 4 on file-tiff-load
magic match 4 on file-pf-load
best magic match on file-tiff-load
TIFF-bild: Unknown field with tag 37398 (0x9216) encountered

PhotoFlow is recognised as a proper loader, but the default TIFF loader takes precedence for some reason.
I will investigate and see if I can send a patch to Partha.

Meanwhile, would you have the possibility to test with some other RAW file which is not in NEF format?

Hi! Meanwhile, could you try the following:

* select the .NEF file
* in the file selector dialog, expand the "Select File Type" list and change from "Automatically Detected" to "raw image"
* hit the "Open" button

This should bypass the auto-detection and force the use of the photoflow plug-in...
