I want to take a basic black and white image - sort of like a coloring book page - and add watercolor elements. For example, I have a bicycle image that is totally plain. I want to add watercolor accents, make the tires purple (or whatever), etc. But everything I try looks dreadful. Any suggestions?

the black and white drawable should be composed by well separated (closed) areas, so that you can click on one pixel of an area using the fuzzy select tool (which select the entire closed area) then fill it with the colour you like.
If the areas are not "closed" this easy technique doesn't work.
