List any relevant plug-ins or scripts:
refocus-it.exe

I've installed refocus.exe or refocus-it.exe in plugins, but I don't find it. I wonder if my installation was wrong or it is very hidden in Gimp?

it seems to require old .dlls: libgimp-1-2-0.dll , libgimpui-1-2-0.dll, libgtk-0.dll, libgdk-0.dll

Download for GIMP-2.8 versions - Just place the executable in the zip inside your plug-ins folder and restart GIMP.

MAKE SURE you add an alpha channel :)

I found something about Refocus-it here:

Maybe it is helpful.

comparing the program linked to by Rod and the one linked to by iarga, they look different, even seem to have differrent goals
Rod, iarga, can you examine those?

Dinasset. Refocus is for deblurring a focus-blur or a gaussian-blur. Refocus-it is used for motion blur, but only linear. Refocus-it is very slow. it is iterative deconvolution. I think it has to do a lot iterative fft-inverse fft? So keep iterations low first. It is a difficult plugin to work with. Can we find a better tutorial? The results I had, were noisy. For forensic purposes it is maybe useful. for little linear motion-blur (few pixels) it is maybe a good plugin.

You can use refocus-it also for iterative deblurring a focus-blur. Then motion size=0.00

I was happy when I could install refocus-it.exe and find it among the filters. But it is not only extremely slow, it has no effect at all! However, I cannot see the difference. I can not install the refocus-plugin, becouse I get error message that libgdk-0.dll is missing from the computer. I downloaded it too, installed in Gimp bin, but I got a new error message about missing dll, something with color, I don't remember. Shall I continue with that dll? Shall I get any more error-messages?

did you install the one provided by Rod? That one works fine, no need for old .dlls

about the 2nd one, Refocus-it, you're right, extremely slow and with terrible result (tried only with defaults, given that much elapsed time...

Make sure you added an alpha channel to the layer before running either refocus or refocus-it.

libgdk-0.dll should go in your plug-ins folder.

For me both plugins work without adding an alpha channel. (windows 10, GIMP 2.8.14). There is also no libgdk-0.dll in my plugin folder (also not in my user/.gimp-2.8/plug-ins folder.), yet it works.

Refocus-it is extreme slow. Try on a 256x256 crop first, with few iterations. If you are satisfied with the results, then try more iterations and bigger image. Maybe it is useful, but you have to experiment a lot with it.

Instead of refocus, you can also try to use G'MIC:

Details>Sharpen [deblur] (works with regularized Jansson-Van Cittert algorithm)
Details>Sharpen [richardson-lucy]
Details>Sharpen [gold-meinel]

For Refocus-it, there is no substitute in G'MIC

I agree that it is very slow on larger images.

About the dll file. I was just advising that you should never ever place any extra dll files within GIMPs bin folder. ALL extra dll files should be placed in the user/.gimp-2.8/plug-ins folder. This keeps the install clean and allows your extra dll files to not only function correctly but they won't get removed when you update GIMP versions. :)

Refocus will not work for me without adding an alpha channel to the active layer first. No change in image at all.
I assumed that Iterative Refocus worked the same.

Rod, I have both plugins in my user/.gimp-2.8/plug-ins folder. The refocus plugin is the same. (from PhotoComiX)

Rod I searched my bin folder:

There I have: libgdk-pixbuf-2.0-0.dll and libgdk-win32-2.0-0.dll, but no libgdk-0.dll also in my bin folder. Is there an other place were this libgdk-0.dll could dwell?
