If I want to apply a layer effect, say lighten, to all layers below the top layer and merge the result to each individual layer, is there a Script-fu that can do this? Don't believe the Layer effects Script-fi (and subsequent python plugin) can do this. I don't want it to be limited to lighten. What would be cool is to assign a layer effect on the top layer then run the Script-fu which will apply that effect to all layers below merged to each layer. Anyway, hoping someone here can answer this one (or help). :)

If you have GAP installed then the added command, "Filters->Filter All Layers" accomplishes what you wish (applying an arbitrary filter upon each layer).

I've been avoiding installing GAP Saul, but I now have a reason to do so; thanks for that info. :)

Was able to use grad to change all the colors to white, but there is no option that I can find that can apply a layer property like grain merge to each layer unfortunately. Oh well; half of the work that I would have had to do is elimininated anyway. lol

:)

Yes there is ,still in Gap, Frame Modify see in its layer options subset

Using Gap has more sense id you have similar images , loaded as frames and you want apply similar command to all (as merge down all top layer in Grain Merge mode )

And here the problem is that all frames should have exactly same size

Thinking better this should work well to clean up and rescale all my fractal in batch i think you give me a nice idea

but i may give you a even esier one, just use gmic,
the plugin can't be flexible as the command line version that for sure may do in a flash all what you need--- but still has a lot of different input and output options that may help to automate a lot of process

I like the combination, GAP speed up work on series of images , and may convert multilayer image in frames and vice versa to all frames, and may apply standard gimp filters..and gmic may automate same operation on all layers, or all visible/invisible and output as replacement, or as new layers or new images

@ Rod
All gmic operation may be applied to all layers (or all visible/invisible) with various possible output (replacement, new layers/new images)
I don't think may do something specific on layer group, i am not even sure how it read layer group, i never try.

But as far the input is all layers can be done with no complication

I did try g'mic already PC, but after 10 layers it stopped for whatever reason (i.e, started with 27 layers but ended with just 10 after gmic operation). Weird. G'MIC would have been a nice way of doing this but alas, no dice (for me anyway). Will check the layer options (didn't know this; never used GAP before). :)

I already mentioned here:
viewtopic.php?f=9&t=4205

I found this where you could make a text layer (or any layer) and then add it to all layers. Gimp 2.7 and up but would like it for 2.6.

Combine Active Layer with all Layers:

I believe I may've misconstrued your original question. If by "layer effect" you mean "blend a layer with a certain blend mode" then my Overlay Background script might be of use (it respects the layer mode of the layer being overlaid).
