I have a base photo that i want to apply this effect on but i dont what this effect is called on this album cover and dont know if gimp even has this image effect. Any help would be great!

I have a script to extract stripes from an images, but there is much more than this in the image above(*).

(*) On the box of the script there is a marking "Artistic Talent Not Included".

Once installed, adds Layer>Shred... You want to use Merge=No (just added the option). The result is a new image.

This script produces something close to what you want.

Tin, Thank you so much for another nice filter. I like the results a lot. I think that the results are much closer the original pic posted in the thread.

It doesn't do anything with the background so it uses the original layer as background if you want black or some other background you'll have to do that yourself.
