I created a 450x150 layer with a white background, added a gif, added a transparent image, added a 3px yellow border, and then I added text with a shadow. I want the gif to move, so I saved it as a gif image and...

http://i.imgur.com/QNYxZMH.gif

I cropped the image for the gif, and then I made some playback thing to 20 when saving as a gif? What did I do wrong, or is that not how you add gifs? Or do still images and gifs not mix?

I've been stuck on this for nearly half an hour and I'm sure I have a headache.

You have to copy the border and text to all layers/frame. There are scripts/plugins for this, for instance my own interleave-layers (in 'Title' mode).

PS: better attach files here instead of positing them to IMGUR, because IMGUR converted your GIF to a video....

There is a option you have to check when saving as a gif, to save as animation.
Did you put a check there ?

Interleave-Layers in my post above is a link to one. Here it is again:

To create the above gif, I made 5 batches each consisting of 19 layers. (1 white backgrounds, 2 main subjects, 3 princess, 4 text and 5 star)

Each block was saved as a .xcf file (uploaded in the following two posts)

Then > File > Open as Layers (all 5 batches), this opens 95 layers

Run this script

Attachment:
oo-assemble-layers.scm [2.54 KiB]
Downloaded 194 times

located at <Image>/Layer/Stack/Assemble for gif

on this image with a value of 5, the result can be played or saved

This is a roundabout way of creating gifs, but allows quick reruns using some or all or adding new batches with little effort
