Hi
I entered text into an image using the text tool, but it looks pixelated.
I did the image again, twice the size, then shrank it, but it still looked the same.
Any ideas anyone?
Thanks
PS I put a link to the image, but it wouldn't let me post it - said I couldn't insert an external url. How can I show you the image?

Could you please provide some more info.

What is the size of your image in pixels?

What is the size of your text? Did you use pixels or some unit for the text size?

In the tool options for the text tool, is the Antialiasing checked or unchecked?

If you image color-indexed (see title bar)? (normally the case if you opened a GIF).

If so, then it's expected: avoiding jagged edges requires pixels of varying degrees of opacity, while layers in color-indexed image only have "binary" opacity (fully opaque or fully transparent). You can avoid this by converting the image to full RGB (Image>Mode>RGB), but if you re-export the image to GIF (or indexed PNG) the problem will come back: all these edge pixels have different colors and you have only 256 colors total in a GIF. So many of these pixels won't get the exact color they need and the edge ill look pixelated again (though a bit less so).

OK, I've done it again in Windows, and it's fine. But it's pixelated in Linux.
But - I don't want to use Windows, so I need to work out how to fix this in Linux.
I'll try those things you both mentioned and get back.

Blighty II
Image size is 680 x 80 pixels.
Text size is 18 pixels.
Where are the tool options for the text tool? I just have a little box with font, size, colour, and that’s it.

Problem solved.
I just changed it from png to jpeg when I exported, and it's fine.
Thank you.

Hmmm. What that an indexed PNG? In any case exporting wouldn't remove existing pixellation... ?
