GIMP Version: 2.8.14
Operating System: Windows
GIMP Experience: Basic Level

Hey there, I purchased a few Tee shirt designs from an online store and I have decided that I wanted to edit the text before printing them.
The designs were handed to me in a PSD and PNG format
Using GIMP i was able to open the PSD file and I am able to see the layers.

In that particular case, I am trying to edit the text "INTO WEBSITES" (see screenshots below) I have left clicked on the layer, on the Text itself etc... I can't seem to find the option to EDIT the text (keeping the same size, font and colors)

Am I missing it or is there no way to EDIT an already existing text with GIMP?
thanks for your help, a couple of screenshot to show you what I see

I am a noob here so I can't embed images but you can pull the gallery with the u'r'l below

You can't. Gimp reads PSD text layers as rendered bitmaps and discards the text information.

PSD is an Ad*be proprietary image format. Gimp can do some basic conversion but lots of PS features are missing. That includes text layers.

The ones you have are no longer text but are now raster (bitmap) layers, the same as the base drawing.

What you can do is, replicate those layers using Gimp text. No need to delete the existing PS layer, just toggle the visibility icon to hide.

The snag with your template comes if you need to match the PS font. The 'I TURN COFFEE' font is a commercial font. I think Equinox see: https://www.myfonts.com/fonts/itc/equinox/

As much as I like Open Source I've had the same problem with psd-text in Gimp. I found Affinity Photo, which get's the job done. Sells for about 55EUR for Mac and Windows.

hmm... more posts about Affinity. - spam?

Personally, I would not touch anything from Serif with a bargepole. Buy from them and get inundated with emails for evermore.

Hi rich2005, no, actually I'm not spamming. I just had the same prob and it seems a good priced product for a feature GIMP can't offer at the moment. ...hm, that said... for the last 10yrs.

I don't get what you mean about Serif. Are they not trustworthy? I only read about photographers switching from PS because they want no monthyl fees anymore. What about the Serif mails? Do you think the product's so cheap they make money by spamming? That'd be bad :-(

Another solution I just found is Photopea, an online-editor which was lightning fast on my test.psd and allowed editing text like PS. Do you know that one too?
