HELP! This is my first time to use GIMP and also the first time to open a .psd file in the GIMP, and I just couldn't open it. it shows a GIMP message, saying" error loading psd file:unsupported compression mode:44544"
How could I do ?

Support for PSD format is "best effort" and not complete in Gimp.

Yeah; other than the most simplest of PSD files (ones with no adjustment layers or even layer properties), you really cannot open a PSD file and expect the result to look like it should; just reality. Don't think PS can open XCF files either. lol

You can try to open the offending psd in Krita, which has a much better import system of psds than Gimp, and it is also open source and free. If it works, then you can export the file with Krita to the open raster format, ora. This latter format is the one common to both Gimp and Krita. Then finally, you can open the the ora file with gimp.

Not ideal, but....
