GIMP Version: 2.8.14

I just got a new computer and I installed the Gimp 2.9 version but now I'm having second thoughts. I don't do anything too fancy, just make book covers. Is 2.9 stable enough for that? I am not a computer type person who can solve glitches. Should I go back to an earlier version?

If you don't find anything out of the ordinary.
There's really no reason to revert back to an earlier version.
The most current stable release of GIMP is 2.8.22 (2017-05-11).
GIMP 2.9.6 is the development release.
I had issues with the 2.8.22 version and subsequently had to go back to using 2.8.14.
There are so many computer hardware and software configuration,
that it's impossible for every release to be stable on every machine.
Try it,
if you find something isn't working as expected, let us know.

Remember GIMP-2.9 versions are a whole different animal. MOST scripts and plug-ins will probably NOT work. The development versions are NOT intended for production use by any means. They are for testing only. If i were you i would stick with the latest stable version of GIMP-2.8.

+1 to that, especially if you are a new user. It can be difficult otherwise to figure if your problem is due to your inexperience or a bug in Gimp 2.9.
