When one needs to have visible alpha channel
Usually, when an image with transparency has to be shown in Gimp-chat, this image appears having a white area around and replacing the transparent pixels.
I have written this little help just in case someone needs to know how to do it. :)

Downloaded, good info.
I will use it when helpful: it's very "disturbing" not having the transparency area shown in a post.

Another way:
Create a 20x20 image (or whatever size suits you). Divide it into 4 quadrants, 2 with grey 102 and 2 with grey 153. Create a background layer and use this image as a pattern to bucket fill the layer.

Attached image is a png (small - only 20x20), but it can be saved as a pattern so that it is always available in the patterns dialogue.
