GIMP Version: 2.6.10
Operating System: Windows
OS Version: Windows 10
GIMP Experience: Basic Level

I've been working with GIMP to do pixel art, using a Wacom Intuos Pro. It's fairly useful, but there's an annoying delay when I try to drag with the pen- I have to cover a significant distance for it to register doing things like trying to move a selected object, dragging the window on the display navigation, and even painting. Individual clicks are fine, as is dragging the rectangular marquee. I am current on my tablet drivers.

Is there a way to fix this issue?

Hello and welcome to Gimp Chat.

This could be a memory issue.
If you can stop a few process from running.
This might solve the issue.
It all depends on the amount of available RAM that you have.

Thanks a lot!

I'm disinclined to put the blame on memory, since I can work in a much more resource-intensive setting (Clip Studio Paint at 600 dpi in 3' x 3' canvas) with no trouble. (By comparison, I'm working in GIMP at 72 dpi in canvases under 1000 pixels.)

I did go ahead and check, and the lag persists even with other resource-users closed.

This could be a Wacom driver issue.
Have you tried Rolling Back the current driver,
to an earlier one?

* * *

This could also be due,
to some change within your User Profile.
Have you made any recent additions to your Gimp User Profile?

First check if Rolling Back the driver,
(if this option is available within Device Manager),
has any effect on this issue.

If not,
you can try creating a new user profile,
to see if doing so corrects the issue.
If it does,
then it's obviously,
something within the old user profile,
that's causing this issue.

I think the issue has been persistent over several driver updates, so I'm not sure rolling it back would work.

Is there a page with instructions on doing user profiles in GIMP? I don't know anything about them.

I discovered today that doing a quick "double click" by tapping the pen rapidly then dragging removes the lag issue. Does that help narrow down the problem?

A lot of people have noticed latency issues with Gimp since2.8. As a digital painter, this, together with the new style sliders, has made Gimp almost unusable to me for painting. It's still an awesome design tool but anything that requires theuse of a graphics tablet is pointless.
