GIMP Version: 2.10.4
Operating System: Windows
GIMP Experience: Basic Level

List any relevant plug-ins or scripts:
Layerfx.py

List any ERROR messages you received:
GIMP Error
Plug-in crashed: "layerfx.py"
(C:\Users\User\AppData\Roaming\GIMP\2.10\plug-ins\Python plugins\layerfx.py)

The dying plug-in may have messed up GIMP's internal state. You may want to save your images and restart GIMP to be on the safe side.

I used Layerfx.py in the old Gimp 2.8 and now that I installed 2.10.4. Some of the filters that have the color picker (color option), every time I try to change the color it will give me this error. It's funny because it won't give me any error with the other one that uses Gradients or Texture patterns. Just the one with the colors. Any help It will be appreciated.

P.S. The only way I have this working is to first, changing the color that I want to apply in the effect on the "Foreground/Background" Palette tool, then the filter goes through the process.

Layer FX has crashed on me in gimp 2.10.

The plugin I use is

The plugin is located here within gimp:

This is what the plugin is doing:

I am using the version of gimp from gimp.org.. windows 10, 64 Bit. If there is another version of layerfx compatible with gimp 2.10.10, I'd appreciate it.

I have both layerfx.scm and layerfx.py. The plugin, I think is giving errors is layerfx.scm.

Both files are located here:

It's unfortunate,
but some script-fu scripts do not play nice with Gimp 2.10.
This is why I've kept a 2.8 version on my computer.

The script-fu file works. It's the .py file that doesn't. It keeps giving me errors in gimp 2.10.10 when using Dropshadow, Inner Glow, Outer Glow, Bevel and Emboss, Satin and Stroke. Is there a way to fix the errors?

Thank you Wallace. I will definitely check out the post on Gimp Learn. You're right, it is unfortunate that some script-fu scripts don't play nice with Gimp 2.10.

You might want to delete the .scm file and keep the .py. Layerfx.py work with Gimp 2.10.
Try to delete the file inside your Gimp 2.10 folder named pluginrc. When you re-start Gimp, Gimp will reset all the plugins and create another pluginrc.

Pocholo, I deleted the py file and kept the scm file. The py file is the one with the errors when I would run it.

Edit:

I have the py file now working as it should.
I did this:
1. Go to you Gimp on your C drive: C:\Program Files\GIMP 2\lib\gimp\2.0\modules
2. Here, you have one folder named "debug" and 8 dll files.
3. Create another Folder and name it "debug 2" and put all the dll files inside this folder.
4. Restart Gimp and Layerfx.py will work perfectly.

This trick came from Conbagui (Ed Merced) via the GIMP facebook group.

The only question I have now is, with the changes to the module folder, can the layerfx.scm file be installed as well?

Mackenzie, I did what you posted and it works. Thank you the Layerfx.py don't give me any errors anymore :jumpclap
Stay with the Layerfx.py because this is the best of the two versions. Discard the Layerfx.scm, because it might have confrontations with the .py.

This guy,
Conbagui (Ed Merced).
Is a proven art thief and tutorial plagiarist.
It wouldn't surprise me,
if he obtained this information elsewhere,
and is now passing it off as his own solution.
I'm pretty sure,
that this information can be found from earlier sources and,
that Conbagui (Ed Merced),
has not given credit to any source,
or other earlier posting of this solution.
Don't let this guy,
play you for a fool.

I don't care as long that it works. Anyone is entitle to their opinion, but one thing I can tell you Wallace, you won't last too long if your heart is full of rage and hate. I tell you this, because you keep talking nasty things about that guy (I don even want to know his name) that is no longer here and every time you do, you are giving him credit. Just a thought.

This isn't a matter of opinion.
What he has done and continues to do,
has been proven.
That means,
that this is a matter of fact and not an opinion.

I didn't bother to ask him where the trick came from and I doubt he made it up so it had to come from somewhere, but I'm just glad it works.

You're welcome and I will toss out layerfx.scm and keep layerfx.py.

I have been using layerfx.scm with Gimp 10.x all along. I think you just need to find the right one. I can't remember where I found it but I now keep it in the vault :)

I thought the layerfx.scm file was the same for gimp. Anyway, I deleted the version that I had and I'm now using layerfx.py.

I don't think I have ever used the py version. Someone said it is better? I wonder what is better about it?

HiSyngensmyth. The python version have the option in all the Filters from Layerfx, to "Preview" the effect on the image before you apply it, just like any filters in the new Versions of Gimp. You can keep adjusting the settings as you like on the image, until you satisfied with it. Another thing that is different is that the Filter "Bevel and Emboss", have the Texture option. You can choose any Texture pattern from your Gimp Patterns and apply a Texture to your Embossing or your Bevel directly. With this option, you have the settings: Scale, Depth and you can Invert it also.
