I see this folder in D: \ Gimp-2.10.12_Port_20190615 \ Preferences and it contains an "expressions" folder.




1) Is this "expressions" folder present by default in the Gimp samj ?
if not, which filter has added this folder?

2) Can we add files to it and if so, which ones?

That is the MathMap expressions folder and as far as I know is not installed by default in the samj portable. (might be wrong there)
The plugin is very old and 32 bit only (might be wrong there) so goes in the samj 32 bit section

Running the 32 bit version of samj 2.10.12 portable. MathMap is in Filters -> Generic
Unless the Gimp theme is a light one (system), then the Mathmap interface is unusable, but (most of) the filters will work.

Mathmap uses its own scripting language so not unless you write one.

I still have the version samj 2.10.11 (I had not thought to look before asking the question here ) and the matmap folder appears also in Preferences (64 bits).
I leave so because Gimp does not seem to be disturbed.

The "expressions" folder is also in Gimp samj 2.10.13
so it's normal.

Just downloaded samj 2.10.13, unpacked the 7z, no mathmap expressions (or any other expresions folder in preferences)
Best guess, inherited from some other Gimp installation.

This really is a monster, 1.5 GB unpacked. I thought the regular Gimp 2.10 was getting bloated, a comparison.

It has been unpacked since yesterday and that's why I saw the folder "expressions":



but I did not open it because no time for settings.

So if it's not normal I can delete the matmap folder or only the "expressions" folder in all my versions of gimp samj?

If you do not use the MathMap plugin then you can delete the ....Preferences > Mathmap folder.

That is just part of the plugin, there are also the files

libfftw3-3.dll
libgslcblas.dll
libgsl.dll
libgtksourceview-2.0-0.dll
mathmap.exe

That will be wherever you installed them.

I deleted the matmap folder in gimp samj 2.10.12 (64 bits) (I left it in the preferences of 32) and I started the search for "libfftw3-3.dll" and found me 2.



So if I understand correctly, I delete only the 2?

I continue looking for others ...

same folder for "libgslcblas.dll" but there is not "libgsl.dll" but "libgsl-23.dll"

Leave those they are part of the samj portable Gimp.
If you cannot find the MathMap plugin then do not worry. If you cannot remember installing MathMap do not worry.
Go back to making pictures

As a note the MathMap installer installs to a ...\.gimp-2.6 folder which tells you how old it is. If a search does not bring up mathmap.exe then forget about it.

There are MathMap > Expressions folders in samj portable Gimp 2.10 Both 64 and 32 bit Preferences folders.

All the folders are empty, why they are there I do not know. Safe to delete or to leave.

Search did not find "libgtksourceview-2.0-0.dll" in D: \ Gimp-2.10.12_Port_20190615

For "mathmap.exe", the search indicates this:

Too late!I deleted the mathmap folder in Gimp 2.10.12 (preferences 64) as I said ("8) and after reading your answer (# 7)
but anyway, soon I will use 2.10.13, unless there is a bug in this latest version.

You are safe to delete the mathmap folder. Do not delete those .dll files

For those batch (.bat) files just leave alone.

DANGER_Backup_User_Gimp_Files.bat has this note
*** To save your user files in this form : ***
*** Backup_[directory]_yyyy-mm-dd-hh-mm-ss-msms ***

DANGER_erase_all.bat Does what it says and deletes all your user settings and folders, including that mathmap folder which is why it shows in a search.

DANGER_erase_old_gimp_directories.bat Deletes the .gimp-2.8 user profile and lots of associated User\... \AppData\Local\ folders.
