1) In the filter settings "alpha to logo / Bevel Reflect logo", the "Spherical emap" field opens Windows Explorer, so I thought maybe I should keep the created layer with a sphere for future use?Image

2) if yes, when reusing this sphere, the filter will ignore the "select gradient" zone or the effects will overlap?

You can either use an emap; or use a gradient.

There is a good selection of spherical emaps here:
viewtopic.php?f=12&t=9677
Important: the background must be transparent!

Alternatively, you can use a rectangular emap. There are some here:
viewtopic.php?f=23&t=11066
Important: the top left pixel must be fully transparent. (Not semi-transparent)!

If you use a gradient, the emap that is created can be save for future use. But with all the emaps available it is seldom necessary to use a gradient.

That shouldn't be hard to test.

Step 1.

Spherical Emap: None.
Spherical Topo (Active Gradient)
Custom Gradient selected.

Image

Step 2.

Black text layer and the resulted bevel text layer deleted. Sphere cropped and saved as png to use as emap.

Image

Step 3.

Spherical Emap (the one I posted above selected)
Environment Map Type: Spherical Topografical.

Does it look like a copy of the first? Yes.
So, you can use the saved sphere to repeat the effect later, kinda useful I guess.
Used Arial Black/Heavy, all Bevel reflect logo settings were default.

Yeah check the emaps thread Blighty posted if you haven't.

*2.) Gradient is ignored when you don't have Spherical Topo (active gradient) or Spherical Cloud (active gradient) in the Emap Type box.
You can use emap, active gradient or active color.

I'm reading the spherical Emaps topic (58 pages) and I'm only on page 33 and I alternate with the topic "http://gimpchat.com/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=9650 "(135 pages), while taking notes and doing tests so that my neurons arrive at saturation ... :gaah
I think I still have one for a month before having read everything and hoping to have assimilated 20%. :(

Never bothered with making any Square/rectangle emaps before so I did a few tonight. After I made some I saw the thread says they are to be rectanglular? Well I tried a square one that I made and it still worked.

Level_0, I don't think I read them all back when. I couldn't do it now.

sallyanne :clap
thread link?A square is a rectangle (particular) so it seems normal to me that it works.

1) One more thing that I did not understand here:

I start with a layer with an Alpha channel. I cut a square of x pixels at the top left, so the square is transparent. So how do I define a color on this square?

Use the Pencil tool and paint it. For example, if you want a red background then paint the top left pixel red.

Better to leave that pixel transparent. If you want a red background, then put a red layer below. Then it is easy to change the colour of the background.

I continue my tests with this filter.

1) How to save settings? :(

2) I tried "interactive run" but I got some error messages.
