Hello, I am new to this site.

There doesn't seem to be an option to select the outline of an image against a transparent background. Gimp automatically outlines the image when resizing a selection, but it creates a floating layer, which is not helpful as I intend to use the "shrink" functionality on the selection.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Layer>Transparency>Alpha to selection.

But if you want to change something without spilling on the transparency, don't use that, use the Alpha-lock on the layer.
