Hi listmates,

This is a weird one.

I downloaded and installed GIMP 1.10.14 (link shared on this list) on to a W7 laptop. It opens but if I click Open to open a file or New it closes GIMP down.

I'm having to access different computers along with the laptop discussing this all.

I then found a jpg of my own creation and right clicked to open in GIMP. That graphic opens in GIMP but when I choose Export as to test it as an animated creation GIMP just closes.

Thus, I can’t work on any file in GIMP.

I appreciate your suggestions re: what’s going wrong and how to fix it.

I followed your suggestion and re-named the Gimp folder fro, 2.10 to 2.10_old and launched GIMP from my desktop icon but it still closes once I select File>Open.

Is the only solution to uninstall Gimp with CCleaner or RevoUninstallersand then delete the GIMP. Exe file/folder I downloaded from the GIMP site and then download GIMP 2.10.14 again?

You could try creating a new Gimp User Profile.
To see if this corrects this issue.

Locate your Gimp 2.10 User folder.
If installed on the C: drive.
The location should be:
C:\Users\Your User Name\AppData\Roaming\GIMP\2.10
Rename this folder to something like:
2.10_old.
Once this is done launch Gimp.
It should create a new 2.10 User Folder in the same location as the old one.
Try the same action(s) as before to see if this helped.

I’ve installed, uninstalled and re-installed gimp 2.10 three times and each time when it opens and I try to then open any graphic file GIMP disappears off the W7 screen.

So, I copied and pasted from my desktop on to my flash drive 2.8 which installs but when I open GIMP it opens to 3 screens instead of one.

There’s Toolbox – Tool Options, GNU Manipulation Program and Layers – Brushes. There’s a way to combine them all so they appear as one window.

Would you please share those steps?

I’ll try using Gimp 2.8 on the laptop as I have no idea what I’d gain with 2.10 but since it won’t run on my W7 32-bit laptop it’s moot.

I’m still working on finding a YT downloader which works CURRETLY on FF or Brave so I could download GIMP instructional videos. No video downloader suggested so far works CURRENTLY in my FF to download Gimp YT videos and I don’t know any which work on the Brave browser.

I just know Ant downloader YT videos as 640x which are too tiny to watch for details.

Try "Windows>Single window mode". Otherwise, Wallace's suggestion to obliterate your Gimp profile is normally the solution.

You know that you can watch videos on YT directly without downloading them, and that you can even bookmark them?

nd - I don't have 24/7 I-net access so I need to download YT videos so I can watch and learn offline.

Ant downloader works very well for audio, but not video.

Hence, I'm searching for a FF or Brave add-on which will allow me to download YT Gimp videos in 1080p. 1080x resolution so they are watchable for details. So far, the FF add-ons suggested do not download the GIMP YT videos.

Maybe there's a free 3rd party YT download I could use?

Often the not working problem is just that YouTube developers are liable to change features every other week making those browser extensions redundant.

It does seem a game the Alphabet plays but it just makes it difficult for those learning without 24/7 I-Net access where you need to watch (for educational purposes) videos offline.
