Windows 10.....Gimp 2.10.8

Hi All,

Gimp newbie here....

I'm attempting to replicate a super easy picture frame that I used to do in Psp 10, using the kaleidiscope effect.....the psp. kaleidiscope settings are:
Image Area:
- horizontal offset - 0
- vertical offset - 0
- rotation angle - 0
- scale factor - -90

Kaleidiscope settings:
- number of petals - 4
- number of orbits - 0
- radial suction - 0

Edge mode is set to: Repeat

Here is my original image...
Image

This is what it should look like after the kaleidiscope has been applied...
Image

I can get close in Gimp but not close enough...

Any suggestions on how I should set the gimp kaleidiscope to get the same results?....

Many thanks,

Here's the results....it's just a quick & easy frame that uses the actual image for the colors...

I do appreciate your help, have a great weekend.... :) ....

@sallyanne

I can see the join ;)

Are you using layer offset? Layer -> Transform -> Offset -> By width/2,height/2

No I wasn't. I thought you may see it. I wondered how to get the + into a frame seamlessly
Which is why I put 'almost'.

Thanks rich, Now I have got it:)

This is actually a cool way to make a frame. Someone should write a script to automate the this....

Looking good sallyanne & racer-x...its a handy little frame to make...

Yes, I've also thought it would make a good script but that's not up my alley... ;) ...

Patterns like this gold pattern, can also be used to make great frames.

Lovely racer :)
i had to do another, Is quick when the settings are saved as a preset Flutterby. Almost as quick as a script. Although if you ask dinasset or tran nicely they might do a script for you.

I would to a script but kaleidoscope has many options that lets you preview the result before applying so a script it not really useful here to automate all that as users might want to play around with kaleidoscope settings first as it's more flexible to do it manually.

If not a script, then perhaps a tutorial would be nice???

1st duplicate the layer and work on the second layer. You can use the settings I posted earlier and save the preset as "Frame". You can tweak it a bit to your liking. Then go to layers\Transform\Offset and click the divide by 2 button. Then delete the middle empty section.

What a great idea. Thank you for the settings racer-x. Love the stained glass FlutteringBy.

For this go I've gone for simpler corners by setting Centre X to 1 and drawing diagonal lines by hand.

I also found if you do the original frame twice before offsetting it will be thinner
