I'm new to paths, and I really don't understand them yet. I'm trying to create SVGs. I understand how to create the path and export it as an svg. My problem is that when I fill the path with a color, it will show up correctly in gimp, but when I export it the color is gone and it's just an outline of the path. Is there a setting I'm missing somewhere or something?

You should use Inkscape for that.
Or export as a png.
GIMP won't export filled paths. They are there only in xcf files.

SVG's might be like JPG's in that respect - you need to anchor everything or 'flatten' before you export.

In Gimp, the path isn't filled. The fill goes onto a layer (bitmap) and is independent of the path. So when you export the path as an svg, only the path is exported, not the fill.

If you want svg files you should work with Inkscape. If you Save it is saved as an svg, stroke and fill included.
