Hi, hoping someone can help here please.
I have a file, I am wanting to make into a seamless pattern, i;m scaling down the image, but if I scale the image down to more than 1000x1000 pixels, and then copy, paste into pattern fill using the bucket tool, the image distorts.
I can't have it at 1000x1000 pixels as its far too small for the template file I am using for it.
Ive added the square image and the template I am trying to add it to, if anyone can advise how to scale it bigger without it distorting?

Ihave attached the image and the template I am trying to get the image scaled on to, if anyone could explain how to do this id be most grateful as I have severl images to do
The image template as I cant seem to upload here is 7351px X 6356 if that helps at all, thanks

Image

Thanks
Mark

I took your image and cropped out the seamless portion. This is a 2000x2000 pixel seamless image. Gimp allows a maximum pattern size of 1024x1024, so I scaled it down to that size. (You can scale it down to a smaller size if required.)

Take the attached image and put in the patterns folder of your user profile.
C:\Users\(your name)\AppData\Roaming\GIMP\2.10\patterns
Refresh the patterns (or restart Gimp). The pattern is now available to bucket fill your image.

The 1200x1200 size limit is for the clipboard pattern. So do not copy and paste. It can be larger. Extract a tile-able image and export to the patterns folder C:\Users\"yourname"\AppData\Roaming\GIMP\2.10\patterns.
Refresh the patterns dock for it to register (or restart Gimp)

Identifying a tile can be easy, can be difficult. In this case take an obvious feature (dogs nose) and find the corresponding feature, both horizontally and verically. Visual check to confirm the contents. Crop to size, Like Blighty says, comes out at 2000 x 2000 pix. leave it as that. Preferably export as a .png but Gimp can use .jpg images as well.

In your large canvas looks like this: Just one layer 720 MB in memory.
