I have a background, and two images. The map is cropped, straightened and enlarged. The wood desktop is cropped and then enlarged.

I select the map and do the sharpen, smart sharpen, and it deletes the map and does something odd to the background, turning it black and then gives me an unenlarged and sharpened pic of the wood desktop?

What the heck am i doing wrong? It worked with the sharpen wisest, but only on the top 2/3rd of the map and left a white hase on the bottom of it.

I thought it was the wood layer the part i cropped off showing over the map but it wasnt. so i tried the smart sharpen. which is not smart if it sharpen the wrong image and deletes the on it is to sharpen.

Just my two cents... I'd stay away from smart sharpening, it was created back in 2004 for GIMP 2.4 and people have just kept it around way past it's time limit. High Pass sharpening is probably better, and there is also a GMIC plugin that you can use to enhance your images. Octave Sharpening works best for me, if I want more detail in my images.
