It was a real pain at the time - and now we know what to do next time...

I wonder why some were effected,
while others were not?

There was a time some years ago, when nobody couldn't accesed GC because Omega didn't renew the registration. To bypass this one could enter the IPs in the hosts file.
Meanwhile GC's IP has changed, so when the entry was still there (like for dinasset) they couldn't access the forum.
Those who didn't have this problem didn't have that entry

Well, the home PC version is wrong (and won't that be 108.160... instead of 188.160?), and I think I know where that comes from: this is likely a leftover from this: a long time ago (perhaps due to another server switch), GC was not available using regular DNS resolution and we had to add the server address to our "hosts" files. It looks like you never reverted the change and have been using the hardcoded address ever since. Just remove the line(s) from hosts file (C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts on Windows, IIRC) and you should be fine (I don't think you even need to reboot).

Ya, as I said in my "solved" message, I just removed the lines referencing GC in that file (.../hosts), as indicated by Skinnyhouse and OMG.

(yes, it was 108)
