Hi, I do some very basic animations using GIF export inside GIMP. Is it possible to use transition effects between frames while exporting from GIMP ? Some online tools have very smooth animation for the same set of images used inside GIMP. I wonder how they are doing it.

Do you use anything more thant core GIMP while creating an animation ?

PS : I wanted to ask for a long time. What is the " interlacing " option which comes as a part of GIF export ?

Depends on the transition how easy they are to create from scratch.
Ofnuts has written also a morph plug-in if you would like to try that.

An interlaced image (can be gif jpeg png ...) builds the image up on the display using alternate lines first. All the odd lines, then all the even lines. This gets a 'usable' image displayed faster than rendering all the lines in order. Comes from the days of slow internet speeds., not so vital any more with fast internet. Sometimes needed with digital photo frames.
