Hi,

I recently added a set of brushes to GIMP and no matter what settings I change or adapt, I can't get the brush to paint like the preview.

Does anyone have any ideas? I have tried turning smoothing on and off, I've tried turning every dynamic on and off. I tried adjusting the spacing which just blurs the brush on the messy line without that beautiful texture in the preview.
I'm currently using a wacom tablet. I've updated all tablet drivers, my tablet is plugged in via the cord just in case. I've messed with all the pen setting both in the tablet and in gimp.

I'm honestly at a loss - can anyone help?

Thanks, Rie

A lot of artistic brushes require a brush dynamic to fully create their magic.
Often its the Random Angle with a little bit of Size Jitter.

Whats odd about your example is, the brushstamp has irregular edges, which wouldnt produce the straight smooth edges with the Random Angle dynamic.

So im guessing this is a Photoshop brush that has an additional texture, which is something the Gimp brush engine doesnt have.

But there is a way to simulate a textured brushstroke:
First you need a texture that you like. Then you add a black layermask to the texture-layer.
When you make your brushstrokes, you paint with your brush and the color white, on the layermask, to reveal the texture.

Another way is using a textured round brushstamp with the Random Angle Dynamic.
Think of it as a sponge like texture. The random angle will produce an irregular texture, but the edges of the round brush will create more or less straight lines.

Yeah they are photoshop brushes. :)

Many thanks for that workaround - I'll give it a try!
